New Year Health Review Checklist

Health is always a priority heading into a new year. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown maintaining a healthy lifestyle is more important than ever.

Here are some health resolutions that you can keep!

  • Eat more whole foods – less processed. Whole food includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, and fish. Try to limit packaged chips, cookies, frozen dinner, and fast food.
  • Spend more time outdoors – taking a walk can help relieve stress, elevate your mood, and even lower blood pressure.
  • Find a physical activity you enjoy – biking, walking, swimming – whatever you enjoy and fits into your schedule. Set realistic goals. Plan to walk a few days a week instead of aiming for every day.
  • Get more sleep. Lack of sleep may increase your risk of weight gain, heart disease, and depression. Decrease your screen time before bed, cut back on caffeine, and get to bed at a reasonable hour can help you sleep better.
  • Stop negative body talk. Engage in positive self-talk regularly. This type of talk may help you and encourage others to stop talking negatively about themselves.
  • Limit intake of sweetened beverages – Sugary drinks are linked to an increased risk of obesity, fatty liver, heart disease, insulin resistance, and cavities.

Finally, visit and discuss with your primary care provider whether you need any of the following:

  1. COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 booster shot
  2. Annual flu shot and vaccine review
  3. Colon cancer screening
  4. Breast Cancer Screening
  5. Prostate or cervical cancer screening
  6. Blood pressure screening
  7. Cholesterol screening
  8. Fasting blood sugar screening
  9. Eye Exam
  10. Hearing Exam
  11. Bone mineral density test to screen for osteoporosis

The above practices are ways to improve your physical and emotional health, making 2022 the healthiest and happiest of years.
